Eight Famous Food Chains Sealed in Lahore Over Severe Food Safety Violations

In a major crackdown on unhygienic food practices, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed eight well-known food chains in Lahore for violating food safety regulations. The operation was carried out during surprise inspections at multiple outlets, exposing serious lapses in cleanliness, food storage, and employee hygiene.

Among the sealed outlets are branches of famous local and international brands, some of which are frequented by thousands of customers daily. According to PFA officials, violations included expired ingredients, unlabelled items, pest infestations, and improper food handling procedures.

The inspections revealed the use of spoiled vegetables, low-grade cooking oil, and poorly maintained cold storage facilities. Additionally, several outlets lacked valid food licenses and failed to meet basic kitchen cleanliness standards. In some locations, staff were found working without medical clearance or protective gear, posing a direct risk to public health.

Director General of PFA, Muhammad Asim Javaid, stated that the authority would continue its zero-tolerance policy toward food safety violations. He urged consumers to report substandard practices through PFA’s complaint portal and helpline. Repeat offenders, he warned, could face hefty fines, license cancellations, or even legal action under Punjab’s food safety laws.

The sealed branches have been instructed to rectify all shortcomings and apply for re-inspection before reopening. The authority also announced plans to conduct awareness sessions for food business operators, emphasizing the importance of food hygiene training and regular audits.

Public reaction on social media was swift, with many expressing shock at the conditions of their favorite eateries. Health experts have praised the move, calling it vital for protecting citizens from foodborne diseases and contamination risks.
