Pakistan follows local moon sighting (Ruet-e-Hilal), so the official Pakistani date is often one day behind the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar. Use the Pakistan option to match, and always confirm Ramadan and Eid with the announcement of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

How the Hijri calendar works

The Hijri calendar is a lunar calendar with 12 months of 29 or 30 days, so a year lasts about 354 or 355 days. That is roughly 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, which is why Ramadan and Eid move earlier through the seasons. Year 1 AH began in 622 CE, and each Islamic day starts at sunset.

Why the date can differ by a day

Saudi Arabia uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, which is calculated in advance. Pakistan declares each month by moon sighting through the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, so the start of a month can fall a day later than the Saudi date. Local announcements decide Ramadan and the two Eids.
